Modern Bangs

floral frenzy This is a cool salon style that is very tricky to create. If you find a great stylist, they will be able to recreate or create their own version of this very fun and up to date hair do. If you have very long hair, this is extra difficult to recreate because of the amount of hairspray needed to hold the hair in place. Mid-length hair would be ideal for this updo due to the fact that you won't fell like your hair is completely "glued" together by hairspray!

Wispy

floral frenzy
Just have to love this updo. The hair is pulled back tightly on the sides with a little bit of a twisted or grouped strand look. The back is simply looped around, and a few wisps of hair left to hang out. The hair can be notted to give this type of effect or just simply pinned with bobby pins. You could also try to pin your hair with a smaller banana clip (remember these?) and then backcomb or "tease" the hair at the base first to create more volume before pulling the hair into the banana clip.

Interweave Updo

floral frenzy
This updo is very simple to create if you have very curly or kinky hair. Simply let your hair air dry, put up into a ponytail as high or low as you'd like, and start setting the curls wherever you'd like. It is best to spray the curls into place as you go along, so they do not move. Personally, I love the hairspray "big sexy hair" to lock the hair in place. It is the best spray for permanent hold.

Floral Frenzy

floral frenzy
This up-do has many additions if you want a romantic “whimsical” look or if you just like flowers. The hair is looped a few times to add volume, and then the flowers are added in just the right spots. Any color flower is beautiful and will make your hair eye-catching, but if your hair is light, use a darker flower, if your hair is dark, find a light colored flower. The contrast will make your hairstyle even more striking. You could also match up your flowers in your hair with the color of your gown for those whom love to match up everything. Just play around and have fun with the possibilities.

Red Beaded Details

red beaded hairstyle
If anything but typical is what you are all about, try this style on for size. It can work with many looks ranging from bohemian to modern. All depends on your dress! With all the long bohemian summer gowns out there this would pair up nicely. If you’re looking to wear it modern just choose futuristic beads in your necklace to be placed in the do. Note to the fashion conscious, don’t overdo accessories with this one, you already have loads going on up top so stick with a bangle and ring, earrings will be too much. Try not to get too matchy-matchy with colors, accent what you’re wearing with the complimentary tone like orange against aqua or red against lime.

Dark Brown Loops

dark brown loops hairstyle
If you are looking to be the center of attention for the evening, sport this wondrous up style. It adds depth and dimension to darker shades due to intricate placement of curls and is a definite throwback to the sixties. To get the same effect as shown here make sure you go for big otherwise it will look like a couple of curls pinned to your noggin and with lose its flair.

Loop - D - Loo Curls

loop d loo hairstyle
Not afraid of pulling all your hair off your face? Then this is a wonderful look for you. Since the front will be simple the crown is dressed up to the hilt. To achieve this polished style a hair stylist is needed. It may look like a couple of curls but some work does go into making each one look this full and perfectly smooth. If your dress is very busy with beading or other detail in front, but simple in back, this type of look can balance the wow factor from behind. This is another wonderful style for a wedding due to the versatile veil placement available.

Light Blonde Curls

light blonde curls hairstyle
This style screams romantic wedding. This style may look like you need serious length to achieve, but not so. The top portion is the models layers simply curled and pinned into place, while the back is twisted and sides pulled up under the free falling crown portion. Want to help out your stylist? Make sure hair is a day old with some serious product in it to give it staying power.

Highlighted Twist

highlighted twist hairstyle
Whether you have a pro try this one on for size or yourself you are guaranteed wow factor. Here we see an exaggerated side part pulled into a French twist leaving the ends out on top. Remember to always start with a simple pony tail then slide the band away from the head to create the looseness necessary to twist and pin. The fun thing about this look is you can go for height in the crown or lower the entire twist for more of a Spanish bun with some flair. This type of low pinned up do can be found gracing the runways and red carpets all over Hollywood.

Hair Lily

hair lily hairstyle Wearing a simple black dress to your event? Dress it up with a professional up style from your local hair master. Here we see a basic French twist with not so basic details. The back has rope like bands of hair to create interest over the twist and the crown is flat ironed and pinned to resemble a lily. Take notice the stylist even painted in some hair mascara down the center of each “petal” and turned white pearls into the center stamens of the flower!

White Flower

white flower hairstyle This is a great do for anyone to try out at home! Pony tail your hair and pull the band out so you have room to twist it up and pin down on the right side of your head. Always remember to criss-cross bobby pins to lock them into place. Find a flower that compliments your hair color, slide it into the back, and you have got yourself a great do for a summer wedding!

Twists and Knots

twists and knots hairstyle Here is a modern “twist” on an old favorite! Want to rev up your up-do for your next event? Try asking for twists on the sides and loose pinned curls throughout the crown and nape. The straight pieces that flow freely out of the curls, and around the face, keep this one from looking too dowdy. Don’t think you have long enough hair for this one? You may be wrong! If hair is long enough to twist smooth on sides a professional hair dresser can pin in hair to create the curls and you are ready for some serious compliments.

Classic Chic

Butterfly Details

butterfly details hairstyle This is a standard wavy hairstyle using hot rollers or a large barrel curling iron for all the ladies. You can add any flower or feather creation to up this hairstyle for an evening out. It is best to dry your hair with a round brush instead of bowing it dry straight to get maximum volume and body. It is also recomended not to use too much styling gels and sprays on the ends. So add that extra detail that you like for a fun look for a fun night out!

Gold Shades

gold shades hairstyle Are you the trend setter in your flock? Then you would have got the memo two seasons ago about bangs! Having a defined fringe is a great way to boost your style points on long hair without losing your length! Notice the way they are notched, this look is not cut blunt by any means lest you want to be mistaken for Cleopatra. Notice to all brunettes coming out of winter hibernation, here is a color born for you. Coppery gold tones brighten up a dark base without going over the top. There is a reason Giselle is considered the sexiest woman in the world, maybe blondes don’t have more fun!

Summer Waves

summer waves hairstyle All the fine hair gals of the world unite! Not blessed with much in the follicle department? Make the most of what you have by staying away from layers, the more blunt a cut the thicker the ends will look, and curl those strands. Whether you prefer hot rollers or a curling iron make sure you purchase a skinny one. Unfortunately the larger the barrel the quicker your curls will flop and you will not get the ‘fluffy’ factor you need to create the illusion of more hair at longer lengths. Want to wear your hair straight? Shorter lengths are made for you; if this style was smooth it would lack thickness and movement due to the nature of fine wispy hair.

Long and Lush

long and lush hairstyle Here is a wonderful cut for long hair that gives it shape and movement. Layers are cut shorter at crown moving to longer around face with a long side fringe. Pay close attention to your hair thickness, if you have fine hair you may need extensions for added thickness or it may look stringy around the ends. Born with thick locks? This is a cut made for you.

Crazy Red Curls

crazy red curls hairstyle Individuals with some serious curl can amp up their style with a low side pony and a simple flower as shown here. Notice how the color really accents her curls? Bright coppery highs and deep chestnut lows in this hair color show off the movement of each strand. When highlighting curly hair never go the cheap route. Find a stylist that knows how to place thicker highlights that do not start at the scalp or you will end up with stripy new growth and color that looks solid through the mid-shaft and ends!

Modern Blonde

modern blonde hairstyle
If you have straight hair with bangs and want a fun party hairstyle this is for you. To achieve this look you may need to begin the night before on damp hair. These curls are created using pin curls all over the head leaving the crown straight. Pin curls require 1inch sections and you begin by twisting the strand before rolling it from the ends toward the scalp around your finger. After reaching the head you flatten the curl, covering your 1inch parting, and pin the curl in place using two bob pins criss crossed. Each curl should look like a mini cinnamon roll pinned to the scalp. After hair is 100% dry you take out the pins and drop your curls into place then flat iron your bangs.

Wavy Layers Too

wavy layers hairstyle
Here is a simple hairstyle that anyone can do themselves every day. It requires a bit of light gel, or your favorite styling product, hot rollers or curling iron, and hairspray of course! To get the loose curls, just curl your hair on hot rollers which are about 1½ inches in diameter. The benefit of hot rollers is that your hair gets curled when the rollers are hot and stay on the roller as they cool. This helps hold the curl longer. Another benefit of rollers is while waiting for the curl to "set", you can get your makeup on. This isn't a very tight curl, so use a bigger diameter roller or iron. Remember that when you curl your hair you must section the hair, and only take 1½ inch partings around the iron or hot roller, or you won’t achieve this result. It takes a bit of time to put the rollers in your hair, but the look is well worth it!

Long Sexy Hair

long sexy hairstyle Here is a soft and sexy look that most can achieve with little work. Unfortunately a simple ‘wash and go’ won’t get you there. By blow drying hair upside down while brushing it you can achieve some volume but for soft voluptuous waves setting hair in large Velcro rollers is a must. Making sure hair is completely dry and letting it cool before removing the rollers prevents it from flopping. If your hair is poker straight, hot rollers is the way to go.

Wavy Layers

long wavy hairstyle Summer is around the corner with high humidity, loads of wind, sun, sand, and surf in tow. What will your style be looking like? If you have bangs now may be the time to grow them out a bit and sweep them to the side. Keeping hair off the forehead due to perspiration will keep your hair looking great. Have a bit of natural wave? Don’t fight it and damage those locks with a flat iron, embrace those waves and curls! Here we see a casual look: lightly diffused with loads of style.

Colorful Extensions

colorful extension hairstyle For the creative individual who wants a ‘do’ with a bit more bite, a few strategically placed hair extensions give a natural style some flair. Hair extensions need not cover your entire head they can be used as highlights! Here we have a few strands in two colors: canary yellow and lavender placed in the under layers of a layered cut. Extensions range from synthetic to natural hair and you get what you pay for. Nice human hair will be more costly but allows you to use heat appliances while synthetic can not take more than a warm hair dryer. When choosing bright colors ranging out of our natural color realm, be advised that synthetic will not fade and is the way to go! There are many ways to affix the stands to your own hair, from bonding to adhesive-free options. Chat with an extension specialist and research what option is more up your alley.

Sandra Bullock

Prom Hairstyle from Sandra BullockLove this hair color and style. It looks so natural, and perfect for the summer if you have darker hair. The highlights around her face look like the sun lightened them to brighten the look. Sandra's complexion is the perfect tone for this color, but even if you have a lighter complexion, you could get away with it.

Her roots look very natural too. Notice there isn't a well defined line were her darker new growth ends and the lighter hair starts? That is a job well done by the stylist! The length is a little long for me, but if you like the length, have thick enough hair, and have the time for styling this length hair, go for it. It is a very beautiful hairstyle and great for an up-do for prom as well!

Penelope Cruz

Prom Hairstyle from Penelope CruzLove the bangs! The flip of the bangs gives this style a romantic feel. The back is not pinned too high up, and it is also not left too low. The back could be pulled up higher, or left a little lower as shown. If you have naturally curly hair, this is the style for you! Just by pinning your curls back in a pretty hairpin would do the trick for an easy do-it-yourself style for prom!

Mandy Moore

Prom Hairstyle from Mandy MooreThis is the ultimate short do! I love the color for one, and the style gives it a young but sophisticated flair. If you hit the tanning booth regularly, this color is also great for a tan complexion. Remember, with short hair you can change the color more often because the ends are the first to get damaged and they are the first to go after a trim. This style is also perfect if you have fine hair and not a lot of volume. So, find the color that fits you best and have fun with this pixie cut!

Brittany Murphy

Prom Hairstyle from Brittany MurphyThese pinned up locks look great. It is another example of a great prom style that is not too tight, but won't feel as if it will fall apart at the end of a crazy night of partying. The nice thing is the top layer of hair that is loosly dropped over the tighly pulled back sides. If you look closer at the picture you'll notice the top hair is draped over the sides slightly to keep the patterned wave of the bangs moving from front to back.

Paris Hilton's Hairstyle

Prom Hairstyle from Paris HiltonAs much as I don’t like Paris Hilton, her hair looks gorgeous in this picture. You could get this same look with hair extensions. I wouldn’t be surprised if she had extensions in her hair for this picture. I’d just be careful about picking a good color to match my natural color.
